Oyo State Government to Honour Late Adegoke Adelabu. Olubadan Welcomes Idea


Oyo State Government is set to immortalize Late Chief  Adekoge Adelabu (popularly known as Penkelemes) by naming Challenge-Gate road after him.

The state Governor stated this while receiving the planning committee of the post humous centenary celebration of the late politician.

The Governor said Late Adelabu was a foremost Nationalist, an intellectual giant whose record of achievement is yet to be matched by any one n the State. He also expressed concern over the long years of neglect of such a patriotic leader who has contributed immensely to the socio- economy and unity of Ibadan and Nigeria as a whole. 

Naming the road after the late Adegoke would go a long way to immortalize him, He said. In the same vein, The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Samuel Odulana, praised the organisers of Adegoke Adelabu Centenary celebration for keeping the values of the late politician alive. 

A group led by Aare Alasa of Ibadan land, High Chief Lekan Alabi, also visited the Olubadan as part of the activities to celebrate him. Earlier on Sunday, the group had also visited a former Managing Director of Daily Times, Areoye Oyebola.

The group revealed that prominent Nigerian leaders including Former President Olusegun Obasanjo as well as living contemporaries of the late Penkelemes like Alhaji Maitama Sule had been invited to grace the centenary celebration.
