MTN Launches HyNet In Ibadan

MTN Nigeria has announced that its new technology innovation, HyNet will become available in Ibadan from today 14^th, September, 2015. The information was revealed by the network in an SMS it sent to subscribers in the city.

MTN HyNet is a prepaid high speed Internet service that offers you true multi-user capability at extraordinary speeds of up to 1 Mbps.

According to them, the MTN HyNet service is provided over MTN’s WiMAX network with coverage spanning selected cities in Nigeria. It’s already in Lagos.

One of Shoprite’s outlet in Ibadan which sells fruits have imported water melons and plantains from nearby countries such as Ghana and South Africa. A closer look at the tag on the products shows the water melon was imported from South Africa while the plantain was imported from Ghana. This has left many people wondering, what happened to our dearest farms in Oyo State. The Governor will not be happy to see this.

Oyo State Gets New Commissioner Of Police, Promises To Work With The People

The new Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr. Adeleye Oyebade, yesterday pledged to forge closer ties with the people for improved policing.

He said this while addressing officers after receiving the baton from his predecessor, Mr. Mohammed Katsina, at Eleyele, Ibadan. Oyebade listed closer ties with the people as one of his methods to rid the state of crimes.

He said other methods included policing with the fear of God, respecting the human rights of suspects, welfare of his subordinates and promotion of tutorials on personal security will be on his top list.

He also said the command would engage in professional policing in line with the current Inspector-General of Police’s commitment to change the perception of the security agency.

Oyo FRSC Records, 277 Deaths, 1,126 Injured People In 7 Months

The Oyo State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Yusuf Salami yesterday revealed it had recorded 277 deaths and 1,126 injured persons in 260 road accidents in the state from January, 2015 to July, 2015.

Oyo-Ogbomoso-Ilorin and Lagos-Ibadan expressway have been identified as places where many of the accidents occurred. Non availability of Trailer parks and Road side clinics also add up to this bizarre occurrence.

League Of Imams In South-West, Edo & Delta States Appoint New Aare Musulumi Of Yoruba Land

The League of Imams and Alfas in the South-West, Edo and Delta States have approved the appointment of an Ibadan-based businessman, Alhaji Dawud Akinola, as the new Aare Musulumi of Yoruba-land. 

This approval happened yesterday during the meeting held at its secretariat in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Aggrieved Youths Protest Abandoned Sango-Ijokodo Road, Call For Immediate Action

A group of youth, under the aegis of Concerned Sango Youth yesterday staged a peaceful protest carrying placards with inscriptions such as "death trap, Government please save us", "people are dying here" and "Goverment please do something", over the dilapidated condition of a part of the road, close to Ijokodo junction, Ibadan.

The youths has called for immediate rehabilitation of the collapsed portion of the Alaaro-Ijokodo road, in Ibadan North Local Government area of Oyo State. They decried the nonchalant attitude of Government to the road, which they said was a death trap for thousands of people who ply the road everyday.

Oyo State Government To Re-Introduce Extra Murals Lessons In Secondary Schools

Oyo State Government has vowed to address the fallen standard of education in the state by adopting a proactive measure agreed by the education stakeholders in the state.

Abiola Ajimobi in a 12 points communiqué read indicates that his administration will re introduce extra mural lessons in all schools in the state to ensure adequate coverage of the syllabus.

He also sanctioned the banning of mobile telephone in all public schools to reduce the rate of distraction within the school hours, coupled with the cancellation of automatic promotion within the school system in the state.

Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Groans Under N1.5B Debts

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has raised alarm that the debt burden of N1.5 billion monthly is owed it by customers in Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti states.

Many homes within Ibadan city and environs are facing mass disconnection of electricity as a result of the debt. Some customers complained of “crazy bills” and “over-bloated bills. Others insisted that they would not pay for what they did not use.

IBEDC spokesman Mr. Frank Williams, who lamented the refusal of some customers to pay up their debt, said the company had no delight disconnecting electricity, “but at times, disconnection is the last resort”. He said it has become increasingly difficult for the company to run its operations due to the huge debt burden, adding that despite the action taken to disconnect electricity, the N1.5 billion debts had continued to widen every month.

Oyo State Government to Honour Late Adegoke Adelabu. Olubadan Welcomes Idea

Oyo State Government is set to immortalize Late Chief  Adekoge Adelabu (popularly known as Penkelemes) by naming Challenge-Gate road after him.

The state Governor stated this while receiving the planning committee of the post humous centenary celebration of the late politician.

The Governor said Late Adelabu was a foremost Nationalist, an intellectual giant whose record of achievement is yet to be matched by any one n the State. He also expressed concern over the long years of neglect of such a patriotic leader who has contributed immensely to the socio- economy and unity of Ibadan and Nigeria as a whole. 

Ajimobi Defends Victory As Ladoja Tenders Over 34 Exhibits Against Him

The Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi in his bid to ascertain his victory in the last gubernatorial election has called more witnesses to defend a petition filed against him by Accord candidate, Senator Rashidi Ladoja.

Counsel to Senator Ajimobi, Mr. Olumuyiwa Aduroja, SAN, while calling the witnesses tendered their Permanent Voter Cards as exhibits before the Tribunal and were cross-examined by counsel to the respondents, Chief Bayo.

The witnesses told the Tribunal that accreditations and voting were duly carried out in their respective Wards and Local Governments where they acted as collation agents for INEC.

Horse Causes Commotion During Burial In Molete, Wounds Two, Damages Car

Mishap happened at a burial ceremony in Molete, Ibadan on Friday when a horse leading an undertaker team to the church service lost bearing and hit a car, damaging its two doors and window glass.

An eye witnesses revealed that the development led people in the area to be on their toes just as the horse rider struggled for control.

The horse rider, Waris Adio while giving account of what happened said, the horse suddenly became aggressive and struggled to have his way before the accident occurred.

I Was A Bus Driver When I Was In Ibadan Polytechnic- Fayose Humbly Says

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has disclosed he was a bus driver while in tertiary institution- Ibadan Polytechnic. The governor disclosed this yesterday while swearing in new state excos of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria in Ado Ekiti. He said;

“Please, I want to commend you for contributing immensely to the development of the state’s economy, but don’t allow yourselves to be used by evil-doers. You can see that some kidnappers were paraded recently. Information from them revealed that they have been using some of your members. I was once a driver like you. I used the money I got from driving to sponsor myself for HND at Ibadan Polytechnic, but I did not get desperate. All I’m saying is that being a driver you can make it in life. You will become what you want to become in life with hard work. Don’t join evil gang for you to get rich overnight, try and rise through the ladder like we did.”

Good to know he is part of the product of this beautiful town.
