MTN Subscribers Groan Over SIM Card Blockage In Ibadan


Thousands of subscribers of the telecommunications giant in Nigeria, MTN, besieged various MTN offices in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital yesterday to perfect their SIM registration. The customers had earlier been served various Short Message Service (SMS), “Dear Customer, please visit an MTN shop immediately with a valid photo ID to verify your SIM registration. Thank You for choosing MTN”.

Some of the customers were given few days notice which ends yesterday, as the deadline to complete their registration they have done some years ago. Some of them declared that they have been going to the various offices of the company for some days now and could not be able to perfect the registration till the final day.

The customers who besieged various offices of the telecommunication company including the Ring Road, Iwo Road and Bodija offices where seen filling various forms and registers to get their SIMs re-registered and complete their registration.



They lamented that MTN is “careless for losing some of their information noting that other service providers such as GLO, AIRTEL and ETISALAT did not call them after they have done the registration.

Speaking on the development, a staff at the MTN shop along Secretariat-UI-Ojoo Road, declared that the deadline message is a directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

“It was a directive from NCC, we cannot block our customers, if we block you, how do we make our money?” He asked
